The Mono Awards is back this year with the fourth annual edition of the black and white photography competition.
Presented by SanDisk Professional and hosted by Australian Photography and Capture, The Mono Awards continues to recognise and celebrate the beauty of black and white photography across Australia and New Zealand.
This competition is open to all photographers, whether amateur or professional, so be sure to showcase your finest black and white shot and go in the running to win a prize pool of more than $13,500, including $10,000 in cash prizes.
Submissions are open until 12 June 2022. You can enter into three categories: people, places, and animals, which will be judged by a panel of leading professional photographers.
The winners, runners-up and top 40 entries in each category will be published in Australian Photography and Capture magazines and posted online by September 2022.
Last year’s winners show off their skills, capturing the judges’ hearts, including SanDisk Professional Mentor and Director of Perth’s Houndstooth Studio Alex Cearns OAM, multi-award winning landscape and art photographer Jackie Ranken, and a lot more experts in the field.
Award-winning and accredited professional photographer, Diana Fernie, won first place in the Animals category in 2021. She specialises in underwater photography, submitting a shot of a saltwater crocodile. Diana named the image Just Chill, which is exactly what she said to herself when capturing that winning photo at the mangroves of Jardines de la Reina, Cuba.
Melanie Sinclair, a landscape photographer in Brisbane, champed the Places category. One of the judges described her semi-abstract photo as “possessing a mesmerising quality”. Melanie called it Pick-Up Sticks, comparing it to the trees after mountain pine beetles attacked them in Icefields Parkway, Canada.
With her faceless portrait called Penitent, Susan Sventek prevailed in People category. She aspired to create a thought-provoking image which was very well received by SanDisk Professional Mentor Alex Cearns OAM.
