A more impactful First Nations Creators Program for Instagram is yet to happen again to empower potential digital creators, according to Meta’s ANZ Creator Partnerships Lead, Kirsty Wilson. “We can’t wait to bring together the next batch of creators, and with funding, education, mentoring, and the power of connection, watch their creativity come to life with Reels.”
The First Nations Creators Program for Instagram is an immersive platform jointly launched by Screen Australia and Meta Australia. The program was first established in 2021 to promote indigenous talent and allow their voices to be heard in the digital space. It also aims to help digital creators expand their network for better career opportunities in social media and digital content creation.
This year, up to 10 emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creators will be chosen to participate in an intensive in-house First Nations Creators Program for three days. During the event, participants will be given training, mentoring, career connections and content funding. In partnership with Instagram Australia, the selected creators will be challenged to produce their own series of Reels for Instagram within six weeks after the program. A production funding of $5,000 and equipment will be provided for creators to meet the challenge.
A Rewarding Journey Beyond Three Days
Once selected to be part of the First Nations Creators Program, a wide array of support will be extended to successful applicants. Aside from the formal training to be held in three days from October 17-19, 2022, participants will experience inspiration sessions, group feedback and discussions, and access to Meta’s studio and experience centre.
Additional support will also be given including travel and accommodation subsidies. Moreover, an Instagram Partner Manager will be assigned for at least six months to participants who completed the course to help with their account needs, education, platform opportunities, and support.
