A collaboration between Australia’s top-selling photography magazines, Australian Photography and Capture, together with SanDisk Professional, hosted The Mono Awards 2022. In its fourth year since 2019, this annual competition invites all Australian and New Zealand resident amateur and professional photographers to submit their black and white or monochrome entries for a chance to win prizes worth over $13,500!

Black and white images must include only the shades of black, white, and grey, while monochrome submissions must be like its namesake, a shade of only a single color. We are thrilled to announce, the 2022 competition recorded the highest number of entries compared to previous years!
Entries from the three categories namely, Animals, People, and Places, were judged by a 12-member pool of professional photographers with various niches. For 2022, this panel was comprised of SanDisk Professional Mentor Alex Cearns OAM, Adrian Cook, Lynton Crabb, Sophie Howarth, Mike Langford, William Long, Anthony McKee, Jayne Mclean, Marley Morgan, Michele Mossop, Matt Palmer, and Jackie Ranken.
For the Animal Category, Steve Nicholls won with the work called, “Pelican on the Defensive”, captured at Woodman Point in Western Australia.

© Karen Waller. Marty. Winner, People category.
Karen Waller emerged as the victor in the People Category with a dramatic shot entitled, “Marty”, a captured portrait of a man living in Adelaide in Southern Australia sharing his story about a tragic loss.

© Tebani Slade. Matera 2. Winner, Places category.
For the Places category, Tebani Slade bagged the first prize capturing Matera, one of the oldest southern Italian towns, in the image named, “Matera 2”.
Each grand prize winner from the three categories received the following rewards for their outstanding work: $2,500 worth of cash, $500 SanDisk Professional Prize Pack, and a $250 Kudos Gift Card.
The runner-ups per category also received $850 cash, a $250 SanDisk Professional Prize Pack, and a $150 Kudos Gift Card.
The winning entries for the three categories, the People’s Choice and the Top 30 entries are featured in the September 2022 issue of Australian Photography magazine and the August-October 2022 issue of Capture magazine. The entries of the competition champions are also posted on the Winners’ Gallery on The Mono Awards’ website.
