Screen Australia’s Enterprise program has been updated for 2023 with a new set of guidelines as it continues to evolve in addressing the needs of the industry, the key funding body announced recently.

Following a thorough review of the program this year, the people behind the program decided to revamp the next iteration of the program, now aimed at advancing the stability of the businesses and careers of film practitioners focused in content creation roles.
The revamped Enterprise program, which will open for applications in February 2023, has new funding streams – Generate and Premium — for recipients. The application process, too, has been streamlined.
In addition, apart from successful applicants granted non-recoupable funding, they will be provided with additional support to grow their craft through learning modules and mentorship in creative and business areas.
“Enterprise has an incredible legacy since it was launched in 2009, and we’re thrilled to continue supporting Australian practitioners and businesses to grow, increase their skill set and drive the whole sector forward,” Screen Australia’s CEO Graeme Mason said.
“The program has evolved over the years to ensure we can best meet the needs of the industry, especially in a significantly changing content landscape,” he added.
Screen Asia said practitioners and businesses across First Nations, Scripted, Documentary, and Online areas of content creation can apply for the program.
Two new funding streams
Enterprise funding will continue to be available through the Business and People programs, Screen Asia said, but for more focus, the Generate and Premium streams have been added to both.
Under the new setup, Enterprise Business will support proposals from screen businesses which champion sustainability and driven by coming up with wide-ranging benefits for the industry. The Generate stream of the program will support companies generally within their first 10 years of operation while Premium will give backing to established companies operating for more than 10 years.
Enterprise People, meanwhile, will support employment for individuals who create a career-defining development opportunity and support a sustainable and escalating screen career. Generate will help early career individuals in a domestic Australian context while the Premium stream will give support to mid and established career individuals in an international context, with the end goal of eventually providing returns to the Australian market and industry.
Flat funding for one year
Also, in the updated guidelines the program now offers a flat funding amount for all recipients — $75,000 available for Enterprise People and $200,000 for Enterprise Business. Funding will be provided for one year.
Enterprise People applications, too, now have a one-stage process while the Enterprise Business applications have a two-stage process, with applicants passing the first stage subject to further assessment.
To ensure the successful delivery of the program, Screen Asia has tapped the services of experienced and successful professionals from the screen production industry to be part of it.
Interested applicants can begin submitting their applications on Feb. 9, 2023. For further details check out Screen Asia’s website at www.screenaustralia.gov.au.
Since its establishment more than a decade ago, over $40 million has been invested into Screen Asia’s Enterprise program, benefitting over a hundred businesses and individual creators. The last edition of the program was held in 2021.
