A Deep Dive Into How the SanDisk® Professional PRO-BLADE™ Can Help Ditch the Excess Bulk Whilst on Set
Three features that optimisethe workflow of any creative professional capturing large files on the field: high transfer speeds, capacity, and portability. We take a closer look at how the PRO-BLADE Modular SSD ecosystem enables this in use-cases that were previously restricted to heavy multi-HDD systems.
SCALE UP,DITCH THE BULK
When filming terabytes upon terabytes of data on location, filmmakers are typically faced with one glaring problem: lugging around bulky gear to back up footage.
Designed to be a small, lightweight solution, the PRO-BLADE SSD Mag works to combat this bottleneck by significantly reducing the weight of gear that needs to be transported on set.
Let’s look at a scenario whereby a studio needs to back up 48TB of data, with portability as the priority. Carrying twelve SSD Mags weighs in at just 540 grams1, as opposed to the G-RAID Shuttle 8 48TB which adds 12.3 kilos to your load –a significant difference!
With Mags ranging from 1-4TB, users have the ability to infinitely scale up and transport as many terabytes as required, handy when filming on the move or traveling with weight or size restrictions.
IT'S AS EASY AS IN AND OUT
Whilst the idea of a portable SSD itself isn’t a new development, what makes the PRO-BLADE revolutionary is the interchangeable swapping of SSD Mags.
Users can simply attach a PRO-BLADE TRANSPORT to their USB-C compatible camera rig, and load and swap SSD Mags in an instant as they reach capacity.
This efficiency allows film crews to keep the cameras rolling without interruption, recording high-res footage to the loaded SSD Mag directly via a USB-C connection.
Built with switching and exposure at the forefront, the SSD Mags can withstand a 3M drop and over 1800kg of crush resistance2 for ultimate peace of mind when on the field.
KEEPS UP WITH THE SPEED YOU NEED
Working on set can be chaotic –whether that’s shooting live events or navigating scenes with actors, directors and crew who are working at full throttle to get through the day’s run sheet.
As an NVMe™ SSD at its core, the PRO-BLADE ecosystem provides a solution that can keep up. When loaded into the PRO-BLADE TRANSPORT enclosure, the SSD Mags deliver USB-C speeds (20Gbs) of up to 2000 MB/s3 read and write.
Encased in a cool aluminum exterior to facilitate heat dissipation, these super fast transfers can be sustained even during heavy usage for all day shoots.
SIMULTANEOUS OFFLOADING FOR POST PRODUCTION
Perhaps one of the most tedious tasks after a long shoot is to offload and catalog all footage for the post production team to get started on drafts for the client.
With the PRO-BLADE STATION, users can simply load up to four SSD Mag devices at one time into a desktop enclosure, simultaneously offloading up to 16TB of capacity.
Dual Thunderbolt 3 ports (40Gbps) allow data wranglers to ingest and copy content at speeds of up to 3000MB/s, whilst editors can make 4K, 8K and 12K video edits real time.
This scalable SSD workstation is also kitted with low-bearing mounting points, allowing for custom rigs and configurations, as well as daisy chaining other devices for a custom workflow.
